WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - American Water Works Company Inc. (AWK), reported that its second-quarter net income decreased to $101.26 million or $0.57 per share, from $107.03 million or $0.60 per share, last year. The company said, primarily due to weather, it experienced decreases in revenues and earnings per share for the second quarter of 2013 compared to second quarter of 2012.
On average, 14 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report profit per share of $0.61 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Operating revenues decreased to $724.27 million from $745.61 million last year. Analysts expected revenue of $754.73 million for the quarter.
American Water estimates its 2013 earning to be in the range of $2.15 to $2.25 per share. Analysts expect the company to report fiscal 2013 profit per share of $2.20.
