Susquehanna-Roseland Line Construction Receives Favorable Court Ruling

Finanznachrichten News

NEWARK, N.J., Aug. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G) and PPL Electric Utilities (PPL) called a federal judge's decision to dismiss a lawsuit challenging federal permits for the Susquehanna-Roseland power line "the right decision for millions of people throughout the mid-Atlantic region who will have more reliable electric service because of this project."

In a ruling yesterday, Judge Richard W. Roberts of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia dismissed the action filed by several environmental groups seeking to block construction of the project through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

"This ruling affirms the position of the companies and the National Park Service that these permits were issued properly and after thorough study," said Kim Hanemann, PSE&G Delivery Projects and Construction vice president. "We will move forward with construction as planned.

The companies have implemented a broad-based information plan to keep the public and park visitors informed of construction activities, including any temporary trail and road closings. This information will be available on the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area Website, www.nps.gov/dewa/; on the PSE&G Susquehanna-Roseland project website, www.pseg.com/SR, and on the PPL Electric Utilities Susquehanna-Roseland project website, www.pplreliablepower.com/Susquehanna-Roseland.

The 145-mile Susquehanna-Roseland line is already under construction elsewhere in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The project is needed to keep the regional electric grid reliable, and to prevent overloads of other existing power lines. The line is expected to be in service by June 2015.

Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) is New Jersey's oldest and largest regulated gas and electric delivery utility, serving nearly three-quarters of the state's population. PSE&G is the winner of the ReliabilityOne Award for superior electric system reliability. PSE&G is a subsidiary of Public Service Enterprise Group Incorporated (PSEG) (NYSE:PEG), a diversified energy company (www.pseg.com).
