SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - September 05, 2013) - The first Under Armour Brothers In Arms Classic is said to be one of the biggest and most unique high school football events in the country. Eight of the event's 46 teams are defending state champions. Over the summer, Hellas Sports Construction installed its proprietary Matrix® Turf system, including the revolutionary e-layer foundation, at Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, California, one of a few sites honored to host the inaugural event.
Hellas Sports Construction's advancement in the synthetic turf system foundation, the Cushdrain® e-layer, optimizes performance and creates an additional layer of safety and stability with proven lower g-max value. The additional cushioning layer maintains the original shock absorbency and resilience. Cathedral Catholic has set the football stage to be a role model for building an innovative ground up program, literally. Cathedral Catholic High School was chosen by helmet maker Riddell to be the first school nationwide to test the smart helmet technology, InSite Impact Response System, a system designed to alert youth and high school coaches and training staff of hits that may put their players at risk of concussion.
"We got the Matrix e-layer because of the name. We chose Hellas because of the name. We did our research and we chose the name Hellas," commented Coach Sean Doyle. "You can tell it has a layer of cushion because of the e-layer, it plays really fast, it's great to play on."
"Administrators, faculty and facilities are the backbone of any athletic program for young athletes," CEO of Hellas Reed J. Seaton said. "But building programs is the lifeblood. Being selected by Cathedral Catholic ensures their confidence in Hellas in providing their young athletes with the most innovative, quality and safe playability synthetic turf surface on the market."
The Cathedral Catholic Dons opened the Under Armour Brothers in Arms Classic, and their Fall Season, by hosting Jordan for their first game on their new turf Friday, August 30
