MALIBU, Calif., Sept. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --Morale was high at the 27th Annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Equinox where 5,400 participants swam, biked and ran side-by-side along the white sand and glistening shores of Malibu. Raising more than $1.08 million for Children's Hospital Los Angeles' Pediatric Cancer Research Program, celebrities, locals, triathletes and philanthropists gathered to show their support for this worthy cause.
Among the impressive roster of participants and supporters were some of Hollywood's stars, including Heather Tom who came in first in the celebrity female division with a time of 1:54:19.71, and Alec Musser who came in first in the celebrity male division with a time of 1:34:46.72. Team The Bold and Beautiful took home the gold in the Celebrity Co-Ed Relay Division with a time of 1:37:23.46. Also competing in the Celebrity Division were Colin Egglesfield, Max Greenfield and Jon Cryer to name a few.
Evan Kraus was named the overall winner of the triathlon, finishing the half-mile swim, 18 mile bicycle ride and four mile run in 1:20:52.58. Laurel Wassner garnered first place in the female division with a time of 1:29:31.33.
Funds raised by the Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Equinox will go to the Children's Hospital Los Angeles' Pediatric Cancer Research Program, which is dedicated to curing and preventing childhood cancers. The program provides groundbreaking treatments and therapies for children with some of the most serious and life-threatening forms of cancers.
Friends, family and fans of the Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Equinox also enjoyed games in the Fun Zone and watched little competitors take on the Nautica Kids Run and Tot Trot.
