In addition to their time at the JLP CAREs project sites, Junior League of Portland members spent the weeks prior to the event raising sponsorship donations for their work performed the day of the event. These funds sustain Junior League's mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and impacting Portland through programs that aim to address some of the most pressing needs of Portland's families.
This year, the eight Portland area organizations partnered with the Junior League are:
Peninsula Children's Learning Center, Children's Developmental Health Institute, CODA, The Shadow Project, upstARTpdx, Raphael House, Neurotherapeutic Pediatric Therapies, Inc, and The Children's Book Bank.
JLP CAREs participants cleaned toys, facilities, and books; painted playground equipment and classrooms; beautified grounds; sorted and assembled book packages; sewed bibs and smocks for children; and conducted cooking classes for making healthy, affordable meals for families in need of assistance.
The Junior League of Portland is asking community members to sponsor their participation during this year's JLP CAREs; donations are still being accepted.
