WHO: The Cookie Bar owners Wendy and Jenny Baumgartner
Karen Kerrigan, President & CEO, Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council - www.sbecouncil.org)
WHAT: The Cookie Bar will be presented with their grand prize of $10,000 for winning a national crowdfunding contest sponsored by SBE Council, NASE and Fundable. Owners Jenny and Wendy Baumgartner will accept their check at the Vegas StrEATS Festival where they first sold their cookies last November. They will provide an update on the expansion of their business as a result of participating, and winning, this contest. Through the crowdfunding contest, the Baumgartners raised over $20,000 in expansion capital. Karen Kerrigan will present the check and provide comments about the power and potential of crowdfunding. She is also in Las Vegas for an international conference on crowdfunding where she will be a Keynote speaker on October 14.
WHEN: October 12, 2013 - 5:45 p.m. (prior to the start of The Vegas StrEATS Festival)
WHERE: Jackie Gaughan Plaza - across from the El Cortez Casino - at The Cookie Bar booth.
WHY: Crowdfunding is growing as a financing tool for small businesses and startups. The Cookie Bar's owners have been able to pursue their dream of opening a storefront in Las Vegas using this innovative Financing model. More businesses will turn to crowdfunding to access capital once the Securities and Exchange Commission fully implements the JOBS Act (signed by President Obama in April 2012), which makes equity and debt-based crowdfunding legal.
