KANSAS CITY, MO -- (Marketwired) -- 11/22/13 -- Kansas City, Kan.-based startup EyeVerify today won "Get in the Ring: The Investment Battle," an international startup pitch competition. The tech startup brings home the title of world champion and the potential for up to EUR 1,000,000, or approximately $1.3 million, in angel investment.
EyeVerify won today's international competition in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, over startups from the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Greece, Germany, Canada, Spain and the United Kingdom. Get in the Ring is part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, a worldwide celebration of entrepreneurship.
On Tuesday, Nov. 19, EyeVerify founder and CEO Toby Rush boarded a plan to Rotterdam after winning the U.S. "Get in the Ring" finals in Kansas City, held at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the previous night. The company was among eight final contestants at the U.S. national finals after progressing through two preliminary phases. A total of 283 U.S. startups competed in the first-ever national contest.
EyeVerify has developed a smartphone technology that identifies users by pattern-matching blood vessels in the whites of the eye. The technology creates an "eyeprint" that is more accurate than fingerprint scanning. The technology is compatible with virtually every smartphone on the market.
Get in the Ring was founded in 2009 by the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship in the Netherlands to bring the world's most promising entrepreneurs together with those who can help them succeed and to inspire others to start their entrepreneurial journeys. In just five years, the competition has grown to include 32 nations. The international finals are held each November during Global Entrepreneurship Week.
