In addition to keynote remarks by Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, other featured speakers included: Patrick Callan, author of the report and President of the Higher Education Policy Institute; Lenny Mendonca, a Director at McKisney & Company and Trustee of the Committee for Economic Development; Mohammad Humayon Qayoumi, President of San Jose State University; Robert Linscheid, President and CEO of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce; Eloy Ortiz Oakley, President and Superintendent of Long Beach City College; and Christine Herron, a Director at Intel Capitol.

The report addresses issues surrounding postsecondary education, including the major demographic shift in schools and working Californians; state-based opportunities in education and training; projected shortages of workers with education and training beyond high school; and the financial impediments for students and families.

"It's time for a new direction in California higher education," Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom said. "California needs to be on track to educate and train a greater number of residents with higher levels of knowledge and skills. We need to reshape and rethink our success models of higher education."
