CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 01/18/14 -- Over 100 riders took part in the Alberta Series Part I put on by the ASA (Alberta Snowboarding Association) Jan 10-12th, 2014 at Canada Olympic Park. The competition weekend was focused on fun and watching the riders do what they do best! From the Grom Jam on the Friday night, to Halfpipe FIS and Open on Saturday, to the Slopestyle event on Sunday, with so much talent showcased, something for all ages and levels of riders was given out! The emphasis was on providing a fun and safe environment for male and female Alberta Freestyle athletes to kick off the 2014 season.
The weekend was highlighting the talents of Freestyle riders, which includes the Halfpipe & Slopestyle disciplines of snowboarding.
Friday January 10, we had 56 athletes participating at the Gromville at COP with the goal of showcasing their skills and giving them a chance to improve them. The categories were split up for boys 12 years old which included 9 riders, boys 10-11 years old that included 19 riders, and boys 9 and under that had 9 riders. For girls we had a 12 and under group of 8 girls and a 13 and over of 11 girls. We were lucky to have kids come out from Airdrie, Calgary, Canmore, and Edmonton.
On Saturday January 11th, ASA hosted a Halfpipe event in the superpipe at COP. There were 3 different categories with a total of 57 athletes; the first to hit the Halfpipe were the open riders. The results of the top 3 are:
1st. Ryan Woodman, Calgary 2nd Liam Gill, Calgary 3rd Michael Modesti, Edmonton
The next to hit the Halfpipe was the FIS Ladies with 9 participants. The results of the top 3 are:
1st. Kira-Nicole LengKeek, Calgary 2nd Adriane Cairns, Calgary 3rd Sam Tuff, Calgary
In the FIS Men Category we had 43 participants with the results of:
1st. Thomas O'Reilly 2nd Mikey Seguin 3rd Jack Collins
On Sunday January 12th we had the Slopestyle event at the COP West line. Riders from Lloyd Minster, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Cold Lake, Canmore, Calgary, and Airdrie and more came to join the fun as well as 3 international athletes. The first to hit the slopes were the open ladies. The results of the top 3 are:
1st. Meggie Dekking 2nd Emily Golds 3rd Kalin Fairgrieve-Park
In the Open Men we had 34 participants ending with the top 3:
1st. Hunter Lamoureux, Whitefish, MT 2nd Oliver Rawlyk, Calgary 3rd Alexander Smith, Calgary
There were 52 athletes participating in the FIS Men ending with the top 3:
1st. Carter Thibault, Calgary 2nd Carter Jarvis, Calgary 3rd Thomas O'Reilly, Calgary
In the FIS Ladies we had 12 participants ending with our top of 3:
1st. Alison Vizina, Calgary 2nd Samantha Tuff, Calgary 3rd Adriane Cairns, Calgary
