VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 01/30/14 -- Declan Resources Inc. ("Declan" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE: LAN) is pleased to provide an update on its "Frac Sand" prospect located near Firebag River, Northeast Alberta.
Historically, the property has been extensively drilled for oil sands contained within the Lower Cretaceous McMurray Formation; which is the target formation believed to host potential frac sand deposits in the area Regionally, in excess of 200 drill holes and cuttings that are from 3 - 400m deep were completed. The results of this work, including cuttings and drill core are stored at the ERCB Core Research Center in Calgary, Alberta where they are readily available for review. The company has made arrangements to review available drill data which, in conjunction with winter fieldwork, will be used to formulate an accelerated exploration program.
Declan is encouraged by the results of the recently completed winter sampling program, which showed high silica content, quality sphericity and roundness, with a high percentage of sand falling within the preferred 20/40 and 40/70 mesh sizes.
Wayne Tisdale stated, "We're excited by the latest development. Evaluating the historic drilling at the Firebag River Project will allow us to quickly advance our frac sand exploration at a significantly reduced cost."
Situated near the Saskatchewan/Alberta border, approximately 100 kilometres northeast of Fort McMurray, the Firebag River Property is ideally situated for partnerships. An important advantage of this location is the significantly reduced transportation cost. With the current growth in shale gas exploration, frac sand has become a valuable commodity.
Mr. Garry Clark, a director of Declan, is the "Qualified Person" as defined in National Instrument 43-101, who has reviewed and approved the technical content in this news release.
