DES PLAINES, Ill., Feb. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Rivers Casino presented a check for $20,000 to the Daniel J. Corkery Elementary School yesterday, bringing their total 2013 giving to over $1,500,000. Rivers Casino partnered with the WNBA's Chicago Sky basketball team to inspire and educate the students at Corkery to lead healthy lifestyles through the Sky's "Hoops 4 Health" program. Chicago Sky Star and WNBA's 2013 Rookie of the Year, Elena Delle Donne was on hand to help the students learn to make good choices and lead healthy lives.
In 2013, Rivers Casino funded education-based programs for twenty organizations in Des Plaines and across the greater Chicagoland area. Since opening in 2011, Rivers Casino has donated $3,294,399. "Rivers Casino's gifts to local education-based programsare one of many recent charitable initiatives launched to support the communities we do business in," said Greg Carlin, CEO of Midwest Gaming.

The 2013 beneficiaries include; Albany Park Community Center, The Cara Program, Chicago Blood Cancer Foundation, Daniel J. Corkery School, Cristo Rey, Des Plaines Community, Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce -Young Entrepreneurs, Des Plaines School District 52, Frisbie Senior Center, Intonation Music Workshop, Latino Summit, Maine West High School, Marwen Foundation, Maryville Academy, Notre Dame College Prep, Oakton Community College, Our Lady of Destiny, Pan-African Association, Revelation Golf Inc., and the St. Zachary School.
Other initiatives include a $1,000,000 scholarship to the University of Illinois as well as the establishment of the Rivers Casino Scholarship Program that awards employees and their families educational scholarships annually.
