NJCU Presents Tony Award-Winning Musical Les Miserables

JERSEY CITY, N.J., March 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing to bring top-notch arts and cultural entertainment to Jersey City and the region, New Jersey City University (NJCU) presents the Tony Award-winning musical "Les Miserables" March 21 - 30.

More than 100 students in the Caroline L. Guarini Department of Music, Dance and Theatre will take part in this ambitious production of the theatrical masterpiece, which will be directed by Marc G. Dalio, coordinator of Musical Theatre Studies.

"I'm just excited to be doing such a great show that everyone knows, with an amazing cast," said Katherine LeFevre who will be playing "Fantine" in the musical inspired by Victor Hugo's French novel.

An assistant professor at NJCU, Dalio's performing credits include the Broadway National Tour of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast," the Broadway National Tour of "Les Miserables," and the International Company of "Miss Saigon."

His credits as a director, musical director, and conductor include: "Little Shop of Horrors," "Nunsense," "Evita," "South Pacific," "Urinetown," "The Wizard of Oz," and "Guys and Dolls."

"I directed 'Godspell' at NJCU in 2009. It was a new beginning. The cast of that show ... was brave, optimistic, and defied the odds," said Dalio. "Years later, this very cast, crew and orchestra of Les Miserables, have devoured this show and its message with the hunger of making a difference, and have more than proved themselves heroes. I am immeasurably proud to stand with each of them."

Sariva Goetz, musical director for the production, has played keyboards for and/or conducted more than 17 Broadway shows, including 10 years as the assistant conductor and first keyboard player for the original Broadway production of "Les Miserables."

The Caroline L. Guarini Department of Music, Dance and Theatre brings together internationally-acclaimed classical and jazz performers, composers, music educators and musicologists to provide students with an exciting and real-world learning experience. It was established through the support of former Congressman Frank J. Guarini.

"We at NJCU share the goal of changing the lives of our students, our community, our region and beyond," said Dalio.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. The Margaret Williams Theatre is located inside Hepburn Hall, 2039 Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City. To purchase tickets, visit njcu.edu/lesmiserables.

Set on bringing vibrant cultural events to the community, NJCU recently hosted an evening with Jim Cramer, the star of CNBC's "Mad Money," and has several stellar events upcoming, including a talk on March 18 by Carly Fiorina, one of the most recognized business leaders in the world.
