FRANKLIN, Tenn., April 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Residents, visitors and fans of Franklin, Tennessee rallied their votes to land Franklin in the winner's circle for Garden and Gun Magazine's "Greatest Southern Town" title announced today on gardenandgun.com. March Madness inspired, this online contest began March 17 with 32 small towns below the Mason-Dixon line and culminated with a final showdown between Franklin and Savannah, Georgia.
Garden and Gun Magazine, a Southern lifestyle magazine based in Charleston, SC, reported over 1.3 million votes were cast in the entire competition. Franklin won close battles against Hot Springs, Arkansas, Fairhope and Florence, Alabama before advancing tothe championship in which Franklin received 69% of the votes in the final, two-day round.
