WASHINGTON, April 5, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA) will address scholars, researchers, and education policy advocates this Sunday, April 6 at the American Educational Research Association's (AERA) annual meeting in Philadelphia. Fattah will headline a session entitled, "Congress and Connecting Research to STEM Education and Innovation."
Congressman Fattah serves as the Senior Democrat on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science, where he has championed efforts to increase higher education access and opportunities, and expand federal funding for science, research, and innovation. Throughout his tenure on the Committee, Fattah has helped steer billions of dollars to STEM education initiatives through the National Science Foundation.
Following Fattah's speech, he will be joined for a conversation on the role Congress plays in advancing education and research by Jacquelynne Eccles from the University of California-Irvine, and Shirley Malcom from the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
AERA's Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of scholars in the field of education research. More than 13,000 attendees have convened for this year's conference, which showcases groundbreaking, innovative studies across the education field.
