WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Republic Services, Inc. (RSG) reported that its first-quarter net income increased to $132.5 million, or $0.37 per share, from $124.6 million, or $0.34 per share, last year. Excluding items, net income was $154.3 million, or $0.43 per share, for the quarter.
On average, nine analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report profit per share of $0.44 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Revenue increased to $2.07 billion from $2.00 billion. Analysts expected revenue of $2.08 billion for the quarter.
Republic also announced that its Board of Directors declared a regular quarterly dividend of $0.26 per share for stockholders of record on July 1, 2014. The dividend will be paid on July 15, 2014.
