The Center for the Study of Islam & Democracy (CSID) and the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations (NCUSAR) invite members of the press to attend and cover Banquet Dinner & Presentations honoring Dr. Mustapha Ben Jaafar, President of the National Constituent Assembly (NCA). About 140 prominent American policy-makers, experts, academics, and politicians will be present to celebrate Tunisia's successful democratic transition, so far the only bright spot emerging from the Arab Spring. Speeches and presentations by prominent Americans and by Dr. Ben Jaafar will begin at 8:00 PM.
Mustapha Ben Jaafar is the elected President of the National Constituent Assembly of Tunisia. Under his chairmanship, the National Constituent Assembly adopted the first democratic constitution in the Arab world on January 26, 2014. He is the president of the Democratic Forum for Labour and Liberties (FDTL - Ettakatol), a political party he founded in 1994. In January 2013, he was elected Honorary President of the Socialist International, after decades as one of the main figures of the democratic resistance to the dictatorship in Tunisia.
