NEW YORK, May 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --Celebrate Personal History Awareness Month by letting go of your stuff with a story at Show & Tell-NYC's benefit event for Housing Works, on Saturday, May 31, 5-7pm, @BuytheBag, 159 28th Street, Brooklyn, NY (Sunset Park).
"We invite you to bring an object and tell its story. Teaming up with Housing Works provides a free, fun and heartwarming way to share, care and be a star for two minutes," said Martie McNabb, coordinator, Association of Personal Historians (APH-NY Chapter).
"We are New York's 'life story people' sometimes described as a combination Antiques Roadshow meets The Moth, only this time we are telling stories to benefit Housing Works," McNabb added.
Letting go of your stuff by donating it to charity is emotional and psychological. Many memories are embedded in your possessions. You treasure that clutch bag and grandpas' old violin. But you are now ready to let go --ready to give your stuff a new life. Tell us about it.
The public is invited to bring your stuff to donate or simply talk about. Bring articles such as vases, jewelry, old photos, letters, or family mementos to show and tell the stories about them. Each person is allowed two minutes per story. Remember, you do not have to donate your object! But if you do, you have the option to record your story in our audio booth to give your storied objects a renewed digital life.
Grown-up Show & Tell events are happening during May across North America and abroad in partnership with the Association of Personal Historians (APH) in honor of Personal History Awareness Month. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun and become part of the conversation. You don't have to show and tell - you can simply look and listen. We always need you to be part of our audience! We also welcome you to join APH and/or host your own local event. For NYC area storytelling activities, http://nycpersonalhistorians.com/or Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/showandtellit. The mission of APH is to support its members in recording, preserving and sharing life stories of people, families, communities and organizations around the world. Go to: www.personalhistorians.org
