TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 05/28/14 -- Park Lawn Corporation (TSX VENTURE: PLC) (the "Company" or "Park Lawn") today announced results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2014. Total revenue for the quarter was $5,190,777, an increase of 18% from the same quarter in 2013.
Earnings from operations more than doubled in the most recent quarter to $674,177, from $307,366 in the quarter ended March 31, 2013. This increase in operating results was driven largely by continued cost reductions in the Company's Harmonia business and growth in profit margins in the cemetery business.
Net earnings for the period were $480,133, an increase of 51% from the prior year. Due to the additional common shares issued as part of the equity financing, however, earnings per share were up only modestly this quarter to $0.096 from $0.09 in the same period in 2013.
The first quarter also saw Park Lawn close its investment in Amety Ltd., and commence construction of the new mausoleum at Westminster Cemetery. Once completed, the three-story mausoleum will provide 3,240 new crypt spaces.
"This was a very busy first quarter for Park Lawn and we are pleased with the results," commented Andrew Clark, Chief Executive Officer. "We addressed our key priorities and made traction in all segments of the business."
