KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --After a month-long, bracket style startup competition, Dream Big America (www.DreamBigAmerica.us) announced today that AkibaH is the May Dream Big Champion. AkibaH, the world's first smartphone case glucometer, is currently a part of the Sprint Accelerator powered by Techstars (www.SprintAccelerator.com). AkibaH was selected to participate in Dream Big America to kickoff Sprint's new sponsorship of Dream Big America.
AkibaH (www.AkibaH.com) is building products to streamline and simplify diabetes management, starting with the world's first smartphone case glucometer. AkibaH takes all the components of a traditional glucose measuring system and seamlessly integrates them into a compact smartphone case. The case then communicates with a mobile application and physician dashboard, giving users and caretakers the ability to see how their decisions impact their health in real-time.
AkibaH is one of ten startups selected to participate in the first-ever Sprint Accelerator program powered by Techstars. The Sprint Accelerator, located in the Crossroads in Kansas City, MO, focuses on healthcare technology, and also provides unprecedented support for local entrepreneurs. In addition to its local initiatives, Sprint has a strong history of working with startups in Silicon Valley, helping young companies navigate the corporate world and build momentum behind their new businesses.
AkibaH, presented by founder Haroon Ismail, originally competed against two other Sprint Accelerator Startups, LifeLine Response and Yosko. After securing the highest number of votes, AkibaH continued to the Finals Round to pitch against the two other May finalists, PackSack and Amazi. Once again, Ismail and the AkibaH team garnered the highest vote count to become May's Dream Big Champion.
On May 6th, Sprint (www.Sprint.com) and Dream Big America announced their new collaboration to give national exposure and support to promising startups around the country. In addition to featuring some of the Sprint Accelerator startups on the weekly radio show, Dream Big America and Sprint are teaming up to create a unique online venue that highlights the experience of startup founders and provides engaging content to entrepreneurs and supporters alike.
Tapping into the surging entrepreneurial movement spreading across the country, Dream Big America strives to educate and support startups, all while providing an exciting venue for America to choose which new businesses it wants to see hit the market. Each week, Dream Big America features three entrepreneurs from around the country. Each startup contestant pitches their business idea for two minutes each, followed by an expert panelist who offers feedback and suggestions. Each weekly winner competes in a final, monthly competition that results in an ultimate winner of the bracket style competition. Dream Big America airs each Friday at 9:00am to 10:00am ET on Doug Stephan's Good Day Program (www.DougStephan.com) to a national listening audience.
