Elektrobit (EB) Is Opening New Predictive Driving Horizons

Finanznachrichten News

ERLANGEN, Germany, June 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --New "electronic horizon" technology from Elektrobit (EB) is helping car makers speed the development of predictive driver-assistance features.

Linked to a car's engine, brake and lighting systems, electronic horizon programs have the potential to provide car owners with a wide range of new safety and convenience options. Utilizing Internet, GPS and satellite-based mapping data, they are able to "see" the road ahead and anticipate speed-limit changes, traffic problems, curves, hills and other changes in topography.

EB's e-horizon technology is playing a key role in the auto industry's development of predictive driver-assistance systems, providing essential map data for features such as night vision, adaptive speed control, curve alerts, speed warnings and traffic-sign detection. The latest version of EB's e-horizon solution -- EB Assist Electronic Horizon -- also will allow auto makers to offer digital map information across car lines without the need for active navigation systems.

Elektrobit Automotive is one of the industry's only suppliers offering an electronic-horizon product that combines navigation and driver-assistance software in a seamless, single-source solution, according to EB's Driver Assistance Director Rolf Dubitzky. Using the most detailed road-geometry data currently available, it allows car makers to provide their customers with the most accurate driver-assistance functions available.

Automotive manufacturers currently are using EB electronic-horizon solutions across a wide range of models. For example, cars already are on the road with EB-developed driver-assistance functions such as range determination and traffic-sign detection.

"The importance of the electronic horizon will continue to grow in future years," says Markus Schupfner, executive vice president for operations at EB Automotive. "Together with real-time information about traffic, weather and road conditions, the electronic horizon is not only the basis for autonomous driving, but also for the optimal use of e-mobility."
