Minnesota Attorney General Takes Unnecessary Enforcement Action Against Globe University And Minnesota School Of Business

Finanznachrichten News

MINNEAPOLIS, July 22, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today's unnecessary enforcement action by the Minnesota Attorney General against Globe University and Minnesota School of Business only serves to injure the interests of our students and tens of thousands of graduates who are gainfully employed in the communities we have served for more than 130 years. The Attorney General began its inquiry into the business, marketing and admissions practices of our colleges last year. We cooperated fully with the Attorney General's request for information and made several attempts to meet to address any concerns, but our repeated requests have been ignored. The lawsuit was filed, and local media outlets notified, with no prior notice to our colleges.

The claims that our admissions practices and credit transfer policies are deceptive could not be further from the truth. It disappoints us that even one student has something unfavorable to say about our colleges and we have an internal resolution process to give students the opportunity to address their concerns. Before the filing of this lawsuit, to the best of our knowledge, not one of the students who have been identified by the Attorney General used the exhaustive dispute resolution process that we make available to every one of our students.

Our admissions training practices are designed to provide prospective students with all of the information needed to make an informed decision prior to enrolling. The Attorney General was unusually and unfairly critical of our criminal justice program; in fact, before any students enroll, our admissions representatives state that our criminal justice program does not fulfill Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training requirements needed to become a police officer. In addition, our course catalog and enrollment agreement outline that our criminal justice program does not prepare them to become a police officer. All students review this documentation with an admissions representative before enrollment and at the time of application. The objective of the criminal justice program is to provide an understanding of the theories underlying law enforcement, judicial systems and correctional modalities within the context of social sciences. There are many career opportunities outlined for those pursuing this degree program.

The purpose of our degree, diploma and certificate offerings is to provide career-specific education and general education credits that will lead toward rewarding employment. While it is unlikely that credits will transfer to state colleges or universities, some institutions accept Globe University and Minnesota School of Business credits. Credit transfer is always determined at the sole discretion of the receiving institution. Our admissions representatives are trained to inform students that are interested in transferring to another college or university to check with that institution prior to enrolling. This information is outlined in our course catalog and enrollment agreement.

Our colleges are registered with the U.S. Department of Education and Minnesota Office of Higher Education. We are fully compliant with Minnesota law and our accrediting standards.

  • Globe University is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS). ACICS is a national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
  • In the past decade, Globe University and Minnesota School of Business have put more than 13,000 real-world ready graduates in the workforce. We report placement rates and provide relevant backup data to our accrediting body (ACICS) on an annual basis. Our admissions teams use the annual employment report to show potential students what our employment rate is by college and program. These rates are also available by campus and by program on our website: http://www.globeuniversity.edu/about-us/consumer-info.aspx.

Our colleges provide an opportunity for education that many Minnesotans would not receive at a traditional college or university. We have more than 1,100 employees who proudly serve our students whom are working parents, military and adult learners who want and deserve a guided, yet flexible, means for earning a degree.Regrettably, today's misguided action threatens jobs and quality career-focused education for thousands of Minnesotans.

For 130 years, we have been committed to student success and will continue to defend the integrity of our colleges and students we have the privilege to serve.
