CANBERA (dpa-AFX) - Japan will release a batch of economic data on Tuesday, highlighting a modest day for Asia-Pacific economic activity. On tap are June figures for household spending, unemployment and retail sales, plus July data for small business confidence.
Household spending is expected to dip 3.9 percent on year after falling 8.0 percent in May. The jobless rate is called steady at 3.5 percent. Retail sales are called higher by 0.8 percent on month and lower by 0.5 percent on year after gaining 4.6 percent on month and losing 0.4 percent on month in May. The small business confidence index came in with a score of 47.3 in June.
Australia will release June figures for new home sales; in May, sales were down 43 percent on month.
South Korea will provide June numbers for current account; in May, the current account surplus was $7.69 billion.
Singapore will release June data for producer prices; in May, PPI eased 0.3 percent on month and climbed 1.0 percent on year.
Finally, markets in Malaysia and Indonesia remain closed on Tuesday in observance of Eid-ul-Fitri. Malaysia will return to action on Wednesday, while Indonesia will be off until August 4.
