SANTA CLARA (dpa-AFX) - Agilent Technologies Inc. (A) Thursday reported third-quarter net income of $147 million or $0.43 per share, compared to $168 million or $0.49 per share in the comparable quarter last year.
Non-GAAP net income for the latest third quarter rose to $262 million or $0.78 per share from $233 million or $0.68 per share in the year-ago period. On average, 12 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.74 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Revenues were $1.77 billion, compared with $1.65 billion last year, while twelve analysts expected revenues of $1.75 billion.
Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, the company has forecast adjusted earnings in the range of $0.87 to $0.91 per share, with revenues ranging between $1.81 billion and $1.85 billion. Analysts currently expect the company to earn $0.94 per share on fourth-quarter revenues of $1.83 billion.
For the fiscal year 2014, Agilent now expects adjusted earnings in the order of $3.04 to $3.08 per share, with revenues in the range of $6.99 billion to $7.03 billion. Analysts currently expect the company to report full-year earnings of $3.07 per share on revenues of $6.99 billion.
Earlier, the company expected adjusted earnings in the order of $2.96 to $3.16 per share, with revenues in the range of $6.90 billion to $7.10 billion.
