PHOENIX, AZ -- (Marketwired) -- 09/04/14 -- The Arizona Lottery announces the $3 million Mega Millions second prize winning ticket sold in Tucson from the drawing on Tuesday, Sept. 2 has been claimed. The $1 million second prize was tripled by the Megaplier®, making this the largest Mega Millions winning ticket ever sold in Arizona.
The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning Mega Millions ticket at the Quik Mart located at 2200 E. Broadway Blvd. in Tucson. The winner lives part time in Arizona, and plays Mega Millions and Powerball including the Megaplier and Power Play options weekly. He plans to use his winnings to further the education of his grandchildren and travel to Europe.
"Presenting a check to Arizona's largest Mega Millions prize winner was a thrill," said Karen Bach, director of budget, products, and communications for the Arizona Lottery. "We've seen an increase in new millionaires in Arizona since the redesign of the Mega Millions game and we expect this trend to continue."
This marks the fourth Mega Millions second prize winning ticket sold in Arizona since the Mega Millions game was redesigned.
The Mega Millions game was redesigned Oct. 22, 2013, to have faster growing jackpots, a $1 million second prize, and better overall odds of winning any prize, while remaining $1 per ticket.
The next Mega Millions draw is Friday, Sept. 5, for an estimated $33 million jackpot. Tickets can be purchased at any Arizona Lottery retailer.
Players must be 21 years or older to purchase or redeem tickets. Winners have 180 days from the drawing date to claim their prize at an Arizona Lottery office or by mail. Overall odds vary by game. All sales are final. In accordance with the ADA, these materials may be made available in an alternative format. Gambling Problem? Call 1.800.NEXT STEP (1-800-639-8783). Please Play Responsibly™.
