FRANKLIN, TN -- (Marketwired) -- 09/08/14 -- The unofficial end of summer brings new additions to the Naxos of America label family. The #1 classical music distributor in North America will now distribute Fontenay Classics International and MPS.
Fontenay Classics International (http://fci.fontenayclassics.com/) prides itself on releasing chamber music recordings of the highest sound quality accompanied by exquisitely designed packaging. Established in 2010, the label was born from the renowned Hamburg Festival of Chamber Music and is headed by cellist Niklas Schmidt. He has been a member of the famous Trio Fontenay for two decades and since 1987 has taught as professor of cello and chamber music at the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg. The label presents both young ensembles as well as recordings of Niklas Schmidt himself.
For the first time the entire Jazz portfolio of the legendary German label MPS (http://www.mps-music.com/reforest-the-legend/) will be digitized and simultaneously made available on CD and vinyl. When Edel recently purchased the MPS label, the company decided to follow the moniker "reforest the legend". By this, they mean to re-release the recordings of this renowned label, breathe a breath of fresh air into the fascinating MPS' story, and allow German artists to be repositioned in the international context. The initial release, Oscar Peterson's "Exclusively for My Friends", combines all six original LPs from the series with a booklet that includes scans of the tape boxes and liner notes of the audiophile re-mastering process of producer Dirk Sommer.
In addition to being an award-winning classical label, Naxos of America is the #1 independent classical music distributor in the U.S. and Canada. Specializing in state-of-the-art distribution, marketing and promotion, Naxos of America distributes nearly 50,000 titles on CD and DVD to traditional brick and mortar retail, as well as offering a comprehensive suite of services tailored to consumer direct fulfillment. Naxos of America is also the largest digital distributor of independent classical music, supplying a catalog of over 50,000 albums to hundreds of digital download and mobile outlets worldwide.
