PITTSBURGH, PA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/10/14 -- Medical device manufacturer Neuro Kinetics, Inc. (NKI) (www.neuro-kinetics.com) is supporting the upcoming Balance Awareness Week's goal of reducing the lag time it take individuals suffering from vestibular disorders to seek medical help.
This year's Balance Awareness Week runs September 15st-21st.
"More than 90 million Americans, and countless more around the world, will experience balance and equilibrium problems stemming from vestibular issues. Yet too many do not recognize that their symptoms could indicate a serious medical challenge and do not promptly seek professional help," said Tony Staser, development director of the Vestibular Disorder Association (VEDA) (www.vestibular.org), organizers of the annual Balance Awareness Week.
Staser added that both patients and the families of those suffering from such conditions as vertigo, tinnitus and other disorders are encouraged to support Balance Awareness Week.
"By spotlighting vestibular issues through our Balance Awareness Week grassroots efforts across the country and encouraging patients to share their stories, we hope to help rectify the problem of not seeking medical help quickly," Staser said. "The sooner a patient seeks help, the better the outcome will be."
NKI, a financial supporter of VEDA's initiative, for more than 30 years has served audiologists, neurotologists, otolaryngologists and other medical specialists with medical equipment to diagnose various vestibular-related health problems. The company's I-Portal® platform technology provides precise measurements of oculomotor (eye movement) functions, which in turn help clinicians detect a broad range of pathologies that can impact a person's balance, equilibrium and overall quality of life. One of the NKI's products, its I-Portal® NOTC (Neurotologic Test Center), is recognized as the world's leading diagnostic system for vestibular disorder testing.
"We're delighted to again this year support VEDA's awareness campaign," said Vince Kytka, NKI marketing director. "Simply making more people aware of symptoms of vestibular disorders can improve millions of lives. This is a goal definitely worth pursuing."
