OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 09/24/14 -- Today, on behalf of His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, Her Honour the Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, presented the insignia of Member of the Order of Canada to Dr. Roy Shephard, during a private ceremony at Squamish City Hall, in Squamish, British Columbia. Dr. Shephard was appointed on May 8, 2014.

Roy Shephard is a luminary in the realm of exercise science. Professor emeritus of applied physiology at the University of Toronto, he established Canada's first doctoral program in exercise physiology and mentored countless scientists in the field. Through his extensive research, he has helped further our understanding of the need for physical activity, particularly for those living with chronic disease and disability. His work is manifest in government health and amateur sport policies, as well as in the establishment of clinical exercise rehabilitation programs across Canada.
