OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 11/03/14 -- The Government of Canada is providing $1,475,000 over three years to Canada's History Society for the following three initiatives: the Governor General's History Awards and its associated History Forum, the website canadashistory.ca and Kayak magazine. This funding is provided through the Canada History Fund.
This was announced today by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

-- The Governor General's History Awards includes student awards, as well as the following awards: Excellence in Community Programming, Excellence in Museums, Popular Media, Scholarly Research, and Excellence in Teaching. -- This year's History Forum was held on November 2 in Ottawa, and the theme was Canada's Next Great Storyteller. -- The online portal canadashistory.ca will be expanded to include information on our democracy, the First and Second World Wars, the flag, national symbols and Prime Ministers. -- Kayak is a history magazine for children aged 8 to 13, published four times a year. -- The mission of Canada's History Society is to make the discovery of our nation's past relevant, engaging, empowering and accessible to all Canadians.
