The SPE CMT Software Will Be Available to SPE's Members Worldwide
IHRDC and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) announced today that they are collaborating on developing a new SPE service based on IHRDC's CMS Online software, an excellent solution for competency management in the petroleum industry today. Details of the agreement were revealed at the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) now underway in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Starting immediately, SPE's Competency Management Tool is available to SPE members as a free, web-based service. This tool allows individuals to assess their current professional capabilities against twenty-two job competency models covering key engineering, geosciences, project management and health, safety and environmental disciplines.
Based on the self-assessment results, a user will be able to generate an Individual Learning Plan to address any competency gaps identified. Learning Plans will include links to SPE training courses, workshops and conferences, as well as links to the resources in the SPE Bookstore and the extensive OnePetro directory of technical papers. The Tool will also include references to other non-SPE resources such as e-Learning courses and training courses offered by other reputable sources for specific skills development. Access to the tailored Development Plan and competency gap training can thus serve as an ongoing training resource for members who want keep to their skills current and credentials consistent with prevailing standards.
The SPE Competency Management Tool will be made available to SPE's 124,000 members from the SPE.org website. The new service will be especially valuable for those SPE members who may not have access to similar in-house training resources, such as competency models, assessment systems, and training opportunities, as their peers in larger organizations. Since the SPE competency models were developed and vetted by industry experts, they represent the key functional skills an individual should demonstrate to perform specific petroleum industry jobs at an acceptable level.
"We are delighted to be collaborating with IHRDC, a respected provider of training and competency development for the oil and gas industry," stated SPE President Jeff Spath, VP for Industry Affairs, Schlumberger Ltd. "SPE's mission is based on sharing technical knowledge; giving members access to personalized, objective competency assessments that provides an excellent way to help them focus on the technical areas in which they need to advance."
"This alliance represents a significant milestone for our respective organizations," said Brad Donohue, IHRDC's Vice President of Competency Management. "SPE is the premier professional association for exploration and production professionals in the world, and this new agreement will now enable their member-engineers to benchmark their competency levels and create a training program tailored to their individual needs."
The IHRDC SPE collaboration represents a win-win for the respective organizations as well as the oil and gas industry as a whole. SPE members will benefit because they will now have an accessible, free, private, one-stop tool for assessing their own competency gaps and identifying training opportunities. And the petroleum industry as a whole will benefit from the improvements in productivity gained by the enhancements in individual and ultimately overall organizational competency, thus helping to cope with the pending "big crew change" impacting petroleum enterprises around the world.
The SPE Competency Management Tool is available to SPE members on the organization's website at www.spe.org/training/cmt/.
