TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 02/02/15 -- Almas Jiwani, President of the UN Women National Committee Canada will speak at The Canada International Black Women Event (CIBWE) on March 7, 2015, during both a panel discussion on the theme "Making it in Life" as well as at the "Breakfast for Pioneers" which kicks off the day's events.
"This event, on the eve of International Women's Day, is the perfect venue to focus our attention on the achievements of Black women in Canada," Almas Jiwani said. "Just as our HeForShe campaign highlights that gender equality is a cause for everyone, equality for people of all backgrounds is also for everyone. The UN Women National Committee Canada is committed to creating equality at every cross section of our society."
The event is perfectly timed to take place between Black History Month and International Women's Day. Hundreds of attendees are expected at the Hilton Toronto Downtown Hotel on March 7 for a special breakfast, panel discussions, and gala celebrating Black women's achievements.

"We have come a long way professionally, socially and geographical to be where we are today in Canada as women in general and Black Women in particular. Black women are breaking records, tearing down barriers and impacting lives and generations here and worldwide. As we celebrate the sisterhood of women during International Women's day, it is only natural that we give a special attention to Black women in Canada and celebrate their achievements, leadership and impact," said Handy.
In its goal to empower women, The UN Women National Committee Canada is working across gender lines by mobilizing men in the fight for gender equality with the HeForShe campaign. The HeForShe campaign has inspired men to sign up by the thousands to support gender equality.
UN Women has also recently launched the IMPACT 10X10X10 pilot initiative. The initiative urges corporations, universities, and grassroots organizations to implement gender equality measures. With IMPACT 10X10X10 women's rights are supported by the structures which make up our society.

The Canada International Black Women Event (CIBWE) premieres in Toronto March 7, 2015, at the Hilton Toronto Downtown Hotel (145 Richmond Street West). Over 200 people are expected during the day, and 600 for the evening Gala. This is a one-day event that aims to celebrate Black women in Canada: their achievements, their striving, their purpose and breakthroughs. This will also provide an opportunity for the general public to learn about the experiences, challenges and triumphs of Black women in Canada. One of the highlights of this event will be the panel discussions which Ms. Jiwani will participate in. Seven important topics have been selected and will be discussed by bright achievers, trailblazers, pioneers and successful black women who are paving the way for many generations to come.
