WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Aflac Incorporated (AFL) reported fourth-quarter net income of $703 million or $1.57 per share, compared to $675 million or $1.45 per share, prior year. Operating earnings per share was $1.29, for the quarter.
On average, 18 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report profit per share of $1.29 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Revenue decreased to $5.51 billion from $5.80 billion last year. Analysts expected revenue of $5.48 billion for the quarter.
The board of Aflac declared the first quarter cash dividend of $0.39 per share payable on March 2, 2015, to shareholders of record at the close of business on February 17, 2015.
