WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Robert Gabbard, president of PPL EnergyPlus, LLC, the competitive wholesale and retail energy sales subsidiary of PPL Corp. (PPL), is retiring effective April 1.
Clarence Hopf, PPL Energy Supply's senior vice president-Fossil and Hydro Generation, will take on the additional responsibility of the energy marketing operations of PPL EnergyPlus until closing of the transaction in which PPL will spin off its competitive energy supply business and combine it with the competitive generation business of Riverstone Holdings to form Talen Energy Corporation, an independent power producer.
After the transaction closes, Hopf will become Talen Energy's Chief Commercial Officer, with responsibility for energy marketing and fossil and hydro generation functions.
Hopf has more than 30 years of experience in power generation, risk management and energy marketing. He joined PPL EnergyPlus in 2005, and served as its president from 2006 to 2008 before leaving to take an executive position with the energy marketing subsidiary of another utility. He returned to PPL EnergyPlus in 2012, and was named to his current position in 2014.
