In a bid to battle bullying from a young age, local author and editor Olyn Ozbick has joined forces with Frisbee thrower extraordinaire Rob (Frisbee Rob) McLeod to publish a picture book for children, parents and educators.
Titled The Davy Rule, the two have researched and penned the children's book using McLeod's real life dog, Frisbee Catch World Champion and 2-time Guinness World Record holder Davy Whippet. The Davy Rule teaches tolerance and helps children understand the problem of bullying. It shows children how to identify bullying and how to handle it. With the support of elementary school teacher Lais Rumel it includes hands on games, exercises and discussion topics. The book is illustrated by animal artist, Shannon Darch.
Including bright graphics and fun language, the The Davy Rule is currently listed on crowdfunding site Kickstarter in a bid to earn enough backing to print and distribute both soft and hardcover versions.
Within 3 days of the projects launch on April 1, it was already 50% funded. "Fifty percent is a fantastic early start," says Ozbick. "We look forward to getting the book into the hands of as many parents, teachers, and of course children, as possible."
Olyn Ozbick is a fiction and non-fiction writer whose work has been published extensively in magazines and literary journals and an award-winning local editor, publisher and writing instructor. Rob McLeod holds 6 Guinness World Records (2 of them with Davy), 8 Frisbee World Championships (4 of them with Davy) and is the exclusive thrower to Davy.
