SCHIPHOL-RIJK (dpa-AFX) - Airbus Defence and Space confirmed Saturday that an A400M military transport aircraft has been involved in an accident near Sevilla (Spain) Airport today around 13:00 local time. It also confirmed that of a total crew of 6 on board it has lost 4 of its crew members in the accident. 2 other crew members are currently in hospital in a serious condition.
The aircraft with the serial number MSN023, was making the first production flight and had departed from Sevilla Airport at 12:45 pm local time.
The military transport aircraft being tested ahead of delivery to a customer crashed on a flight in Sevilla.
All crew members are Airbus Defence and Space employees of Spanish nationality.
An Airbus Group go-team of technical advisors is being dispatched to provide full assistance to the official committee in charge of the investigation, the company said in a statement.
MSN023 was foreseen to be the third aircraft to be delivered to the Turkish customer. The formal delivery was scheduled for June 2015.
