JERUSALEM (dpa-AFX) - Following their meeting in Vatican on Saturday, Pope Francis and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expressed hopes of resuming peace talks between Palestine and Israel.
They sought 'courageous decisions' for peace and a 'just and lasting solution' to the conflict, and international support for the resumption of talks. Abbas and the pontiff also stressed on the need for inter-religious dialogue in the Middle East and combating terrorism.
Abbas is set to attend the canonization of the two Palestinian nuns on Sunday.
Earlier this week, the Vatican announced that it will sign a deal with the State of Palestine, which meant formal recognition of the statehood of Palestine.
