PANAMA (dpa-AFX) - Carnival Cruise Line will be soon banning its passengers from bringing bottled drinks on board, reports said on Tuesday.
Starting July 9, bottled water, soda and other non-alcoholic drinks will not be allowed on board Carnival's fleet.
The move comes as Carnival strives to prevent the smuggling of alcohol, given that some passengers try to conceal alcohol as soft drinks and bring them on board.
The only exception is that passengers over the age of 21 are still allowed one bottle of wine, as per reports.
Carnival's move means beverages must be packaged in unopened cans or cartons, including sodas and juices, with a maximum number of 12 packed in carry-on luggage.
Carnival will also be restricting the size of coolers that can be brought onboard to 7.5 gallons or less in volume.
Those violating the rules will have their bottles confiscated by Carnival staff, reports said.
