DELTA, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/12/15 -- Department of Canadian Heritage
The Honourable Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, P.C., Q.C., MP for Delta-Richmond East and Minister of National Revenue, on behalf of the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), today announced $50,000 in funding from the Government of Canada for Cycling Canada Cyclisme to support hosting of the White Spot / Delta Road Race on July 12, 2015.
Quick Facts
- The White Spot / Delta Road Race is an annual international road race sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). This year's edition will attract 205 athletes, coaches and team staff from 8 countries.
- The funding, from Sport Canada's Hosting Program, will provide 110 athletes, 10 coaches and 8 officials with a highly competitive international experience.
- In 2014-15, the Government of Canada provided $4,475,800 to Cycling Canada Cyclisme through Sport Canada's Sport Support Program for programs and services that have a direct impact on athlete development.
- For 2015-16, the Government of Canada, through Sport Canada's Athlete Assistance Program, is providing 52 cycling athletes with direct monthly support to assist with their living, training and education expenses and allow them to focus on their training.
- The Government of Canada places great importance on our high-performance athletes, as well as healthy and active Canadians. In Economic Action Plan 2015, the Government doubled the Children's Fitness Tax Credit to $1,000 to help offset the costs of parents enrolling their children in organized sports. At the same time, starting in 2016-17, it will be investing up to an additional $20 million into the next generation of Olympic and Paralympic athletes to ensure they have what they need to push for the podium, now and in the future.
