JOHNS CREEK, GA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/14/15 -- Saia, Inc. (NASDAQ: SAIA) is pleased to announce that Saia LTL Freight Regional Safety Manager Cindy Emmons will speak as part of a panel on Aug. 17, 2015 at a SmartWay workshop being held prior to the Southeast Diesel Collaborative's (SEDC) 10th Annual Partners Meeting in Atlanta, Ga.
Launched in 2004, SmartWay is a program of the Environmental Protection Agency that helps the transportation industry, and those with corporate supply chains, improve their efficiency. The program's goal is three-fold. It seeks to reduce transportation-related emissions with regard to greenhouse gases that affect climate change and increase air pollution. It also strives to decrease environmental risk for companies while also increasing global energy security.
"By holding the workshop prior to the SEDC's annual meeting, SmartWay hopes to showcase its value with prospective, non-SmartWay companies and enhance the engagement it has with entities who are already partners, but might not know the many benefits of the program," explained Emmons.
Emmons has worked at Saia since 1989. She has over 32 years of experience in the transportation industry and has spent 17 years working in management system implementation. Emmons has helped spearhead many of Saia's green initiatives including the company's partnership with the SmartWay program.
