MUSKOKA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 08/28/15 -- Port Cunnington Lodge & Resort (www.portcunnington.com), one of the oldest Ontario resorts still operating under its original name in Muskoka, celebrated its 125th birthday in style last month. The Lake of Bays resort hosted a birthday bash with special guests, vintage boats, entertainment, and a charity BBQ. Innkeeper Kim Loader reports that Port Cunnington's 125th anniversary BBQ was "a tremendous success." "It was a fun day and a wonderful show of support from our neighbors and the entire Lake of Bays community," says Loader. The July 16th event attracted approximately 500 attendees from all across Muskoka, who came out to help celebrate the popular, landmark Muskoka Lodge's impressive milestone. The charity BBQ raised $2,100.00, which was donated to the Lake of Bays Heritage Foundation.
To kick off Port Cunnington's birthday celebrate, Bob Young, Mayor of Lake of Bays, and Norm Miller, MPP for Parry Sound-Muskoka, were on hand to start the festivities. One of the many highlights of the day included the arrival of a flotilla of vintage boats, including many beautiful classic Muskoka power boats and the newly restored S.S. Bigwin. The S.S. Bigwin is a historic 1910 steamship that was used to ferry passengers on Lake of Bays to nearby Bigwin Island.
To the delight of those in attendance, entertainment for the Port Cunnington Lodge & Resort's anniversary BBQ was provided by the high-energy fiddle step band Everything Fitz. A family band, comprised of four talented young musicians, Everything Fitz put on an exciting performance of spirited fiddling and lively percussive step dancing. The Lake of Bays Brewing Company, a boutique brewery that is headquartered in nearby Baysville, was on site with a selection of local craft beers that were available for attendee for to sample.
"We are very happy that we were able to raise $2,100.00 for the Lake of Bays Heritage Foundation," reports Loader. "The Heritage Foundation does important work in Muskoka. It's a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to the protection of the natural and cultural heritage of Lake of Bays. It's just one of several deserving local causes that Port Cunnington is pleased to support. Others include the Annual Anglican Church Regatta and the Andrew Daniels Fish Stewardship Program. Port Cunnington has played an active role in the life of Lake of Bays for over a century. We believe it is very important to lend our support to the local community whenever we can and to do everything possible to protect this beautiful area for the enjoyment of many future generations," Loader adds.
