WOLFSBURG (dpa-AFX) - German car maker Volkswagen AG said on Saturday that it was suspending the sale of some of its diesel vehicles in Australia to address the diesel emissions issue.
'In its first step, effective immediately VGA [Volkswagen Group Australia] has temporarily suspended the sale of affected vehicles fitted with 1.6 or 2.0-litre EA189 diesel engines,' the company said in a statement.
'The suspension will remain until the emission issues are addressed in those vehicles.'
The auto giant has already admitted that around 11 million of its vehicles across the world are fitted with devices engineered to cheat on emission levels.
