CLEARWATER, FL -- (Marketwired) -- 12/03/15 -- Operation Toy Soldier, founded by funeral directors and the president of Veterans Funeral Care in 2013, delivered more than 30,000 toys and gift cards to children last year. This year the organization hopes to do it again and has officially announced the national drop off locations for toys and is also accepting cash donations.
Often times during the holidays children of deployed and non-deployed military do not have the funds available to buy gifts for their children. More than 1.4 million veterans live below the poverty line and more than 57,000 veterans are considered homeless. Operation Toy Soldier was founded by funeral directors who care about military families.
According to Jim Rudolph, president of Veterans Funeral Care and founder of Operation Toy Soldier, "Christmas is a time of year to celebrate with family and spread the magic of the season. We love putting smiles on kids' faces, and while we might not be Santa Claus, we like to be able to deliver as many toys as possible to families. It is also our way to give back to those who serve our country, and we want to pay special tribute to the sacrifices our servicemen and women make for our country. I also want to thank each and every one of our funeral directors for participating again this year."
Donations can be made at several drop-off locations in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania.
Operation Toy Soldier is a nationwide initiative by Veterans Funeral Care to provide toys to the children of deployed and non-deployed soldiers, and also the children of soldiers that have just returned home. Read more about the Operation Toy Soldier story.
