TOKYO (dpa-AFX) - Three Chinese ships, including one that was claimed by the Japan Coast Guard to be armed with an auto-cannon, intruded Japan's territorial waters on Saturday morning.
The three vessels reached waters north of Kuba Island from around 8:19 am local time, entering Japanese territorial waters beginning from 9:30 am and moved to a contiguous zone about 70 minutes later. This is the first time a China Coast Guard vessel carrying what appeared to be cannons was found entering Japanese waters, the Japan Coast Guard said.
Japanese government complained about the intrusion to the Chinese embassy in Tokyo and to China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing.
Kyodo news reported that the Chinese refuse to hear the warning send by Japan's coast guard, saying that the Japanese vessel was in Chinese waters and should leave immediately.
Kuba Island, located among a group of islands in the East China Sea, is known as Senkaku in Japanese and Diaoyu in Chinese.
