CHESTER, PA--(Marketwired - April 26, 2016) - Chester Community Charter School (CCCS), East Campus, recently held its second annual "Doughnuts with Dad" event for kindergarten and first-grade scholars, who were accompanied by 125 fathers and male guardians. The purpose of the event was to give fathers of the Chester community the opportunity to have one-on-one time with their scholars, in a school setting. The doughnuts for the event were provided by BJ's Wholesale Club, and were distributed to the scholars and dads by CCCS faculty and staff.
The program was led by CCCS principal, Mrs. Jahnia Robinson, who was assisted by the school's faculty and staff. It was divided into two separate events for kindergarten and first-graders who have been exceptional in areas of attendance, grades and behavior. Commenting on the participating students, Mrs. Robinson said, "These students work very hard and are excited about learning. We want to promote this behavior because having them realize educational success, at an early age, is the ultimate goal."
CCCS's young scholars presented their fathers with arts and crafts, which they made specifically for their dads and, in return, the "dads", read a story of his child's choice, for half an hour. The event was designed to encourage additional reading at home, between students and their parents, and to recognize the fathers, or male guardians, who continuously support their students' academic achievements. Mr. Stephen Fontaine, dean of students, East Campus said, "This year we had a larger number of male participants, as compared to last year, which is phenomenal because the broader community does not generally see men in this kind of positive light, especially here, in Chester."
At last year's, "Doughnuts with Dad," 75 fathers and male guardians, including dads, step-dads, grandfathers, uncles and older brothers, participated, and the program had a similar agenda. According to Principal Robinson, the event will be held each year, anticipating attendance by even more fathers and male guardians.
