WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - July 17, 2016) - U.S. Conference of Mayors President Oklahoma City (OK) Mayor Mick Cornett issued the following statement today following news of an attack on police officers in Baton Rouge (LA):
"With the shots that killed and wounded police officers in Dallas still resonating across this nation, an attack on police this morning in Baton Rouge has left at least three officers dead and three more wounded. The words of condolence that poured into Dallas from across the nation and around the world so few days ago will now flow into Baton Rouge.
"For the second time in 10 days a Mayor has had the sad duty of telling his community that police officers have been targeted by an assailant. America's mayors stand with Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden as he leads his community through this difficult time. We appreciate Mayor Holden's statement that this must be a time 'to bridge the divide and come out with a unified voice.'"
