BELLEVUE (dpa-AFX) - Expedia, Inc. (EXPE) reported second-quarter adjusted earnings per share, excluding eLong, of $0.83 compared to $0.89, prior year. On average, 27 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report profit per share of $0.78 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items. Second-quarter adjusted net income increased to $128.2 million from $118.6 million, a year ago.
Second-quarter revenue, excluding eLong, increased 33% year-over-year to over $2.20 billion. Analysts expected revenue of $2.25 billion for the quarter. Gross bookings increased 25% year-over-year, excluding eLong, to over $18.8 billion in the second quarter of 2016. Domestic revenue increased 40% and international revenue increased 24%.
Hotel revenue increased 14% in the second quarter of 2016 on a 20% increase in room nights stayed driven by the inorganic impact of acquisitions as well as the organic growth in Hotels.com and Brand Expedia, partially offset by a 5% decrease in revenue per room night.
Shares of Expedia were down more than 6% after hours.
