BEIJING (dpa-AFX) - The world's longest and highest glass-bottomed bridge in China closed on Friday just two weeks of opening after being overwhelmed by the number of visitors.
The 430-m long Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon glass bridge in Hunan province was opened on August 20. The capacity of the glass bridge was set at 8,000 visitors a day, but people came ten times this limit, the CNN reported, citing a spokesperson for the bridge.
There were no accidents and no damage to the bridge, the spokesperson told the CNN. The bridge was closed for an internal system upgrade, reports said citing a post by authorities on the Chinese micro-blogging website Weibo. It remains unclear when the popular bridge will re-open.
