WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Greek yogurt giant Chobani has filed a lawsuit against Alex Jones, alleging that the radio host published false news about the company.
Alex Jones is a high-profile conspiracy theorist and the host of a popular right-wing radio show The Alex Jones Show.
According to Chobani, Jones and his website Infowars defamed the company by falsely linking Chobani and owner Hamdi Ulukaya to child rape and a tuberculosis outbreak near its plant in Twin Falls, Idaho.
The suit was filed on Monday in district court in Twin Falls County, Idaho. The company is seeking $10,000 in damages.
The reports were published on April 11 on InfoWars.com and on 'The Alex Jones Channel' on YouTube. They A tweet from Infowars read 'Idaho Yogurt maker Caught Importing Migrant Rapists.'
(Jones) is no stranger to spurious statements. He has claimed that the U.S. government orchestrated the 9/11 attacks and the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut,' Chobani's attorneys wrote. 'Mr. Jones has now taken aim at Chobani and the Twin Falls community.'
