As a trusted partner in the textile and footwear industry, SGS has worked tirelessly with industry stakeholders to move toward the zero discharge goal. This latest addition to their scope, effective October 2017, enables SGS to conduct testing and submit data on behalf of suppliers to the ZDHC Gateway - Wastewater Module. From wastewater and sludge sampling and testing, to handling suppliers' data, SGS is committed to supporting the textile and footwear industry to improve its chemical management in production.
The ZDHC Provisional Laboratory Acceptance Program is based on the ZDHC Wastewater Guidelines, a consistent set of expectations and standards for brands and suppliers. Laboratories that receive Provisional Laboratory Status will be able to analyze wastewater and sludge samples for suppliers and submit data to the ZDHC Gateway. This data can be made public with suppliers' approval, giving the industry more transparency in the production process.
Over the next few months, SGS will continue to work with the ZDHC program to ensure all the applied laboratories maintain and achieve the status requirements. Currently, 11 SGS laboratories hold accepted status, covering the network in Europe, South East Asia, South America, and China.
