WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - General Motors has issued a voluntary recall of over 1 million full-size pickups and large SUVs to fix the electric power steering module.
The recall covers model-year 2015 Cadillac Escalade SUVs; Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup trucks and Suburban and Tahoe SUVs; and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks and Yukon SUVs.
GM has identified 30 crashes, two injuries and no deaths connected to the issue.
According to the company, the electric power steering assist may be lost momentarily, followed by a sudden return of EPS assist, potentially increasing the difficulty of steering the vehicle, especially at low speeds, as well as increasing the risk of a crash.
The loss and sudden return of EPS assist typically happens within a 1 second period and is caused by an electrical/software issue, GM said.
The dealers will update the electric power steering module software for free.
