Fast, accurate reflex process using a proprietary algorithm that facilitates workflow efficiencies for clinics and optimize clinical operations for patients
Dallas, Texas--(Newsfile Corp. - August 25, 2022) - Ellie Diagnostics, the leading independent diagnostics services provider for veterinarians, today announced a new advanced reflexive testing process with a proprietary algorithm using Siemens Healthineers ADVIA 2120i Hematology System - a unique optical-based hematology system. The process is available today for veterinarians who request Ellie's CBCs, which are available in many of Ellie's diagnostic panels.
Ellie Diagnostics' new Ellie CBC enables, rule-based decision making that allows us to customize testing based on the patients results in real-time. The new algorithm helps remove time-consuming manual interventions as appropriate add-on testing is automatically triggered when a CBC result violates a set of pre-defined rules. By expediting reflexive testing in this manner, critical diagnostic information will reach veterinarians faster, enabling them to prescribe earlier treatments that can greatly affect patient outcomes.
"By automating decision-making with a rule-based reflex algorithm, our new Ellie CBC is driving faster turnaround times and lower overall cost of testing while giving more patients access to higher quality diagnostics," said Founder and Chief Executive Officer Mark DeCourcy. "It's a great new tool, and one more exciting innovation that the Ellie team is able to share with the veterinary community to be able to provide better medicine at an affordable cost to the pet parent."
Development of this algorithm was made possible in part by collaboration with in-vitro diagnostics manufacturer Siemens Healthineers. Ellie Diagnostics obtains CBC results known as parameters with their ADVIA 2120i Hematology System, a high-speed analyzer used in hospitals, clinical laboratories, and veterinary facilities across the U.S. Blood cell counts and morphological information such as cell shape and size are derived from the ADVIA System and are combined to form the basis for the algorithm.
"We are proud to partner with Ellie Diagnostics on their custom algorithm for the ADVIA 2120i System," said Sheryl Kirk, marketing manager for Siemens Healthineers U.S. hematology business. "CBC interpretations can be highly subjective, and many analyzers are susceptible to errors that can delay treatment. The ADVIA System's unique optical-based technologies help veterinary clinics achieve accurate results on the first-pass by overcoming common analytical limitations. This functionality combined with the algorithm developed by the Ellie Diagnostics team facilitates objective, rules-based decision-making and workflow efficiencies that optimize clinical operations for their patients."
